Amala Gameela is a talented and passionate Middle Eastern Dance Artist based in the Lehigh Valley, PA area specializing in folkloric Middle Eastern dance and Egyptian cabaret. She is a sought after performer, enthusiastic instructor, and event producer who presents traditional Middle Eastern dance with beauty, culture, and professional artistry.

She takes her dance education and training seriously and continues to study with renowned, inspirational professionals from the United States and Egypt such as Mohamed Shahin, Faten Salama, Raqia Hassan, Gamila El Masri, Tito, and Yousry Sharif among others. Amala is also honored to have learned from legendary international dance icons such as Mahmoud Reda, Farida Fahmy, Aisha Ali and has completed several Egyptian dance certifications with her most influential instructor, Sahra Saeeda. After over ten years of Middle Eastern dance studies she is an advocate of preserving the traditional art form and looks forward to expanding her cultural dance knowledge and skills in Egypt.

Amala Gameela embarked on her dance career with Diana Shahein of Beledi Dance Theatre in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was a core member of Embers & Emeralds, an award winning belly dance troupe based in Easton, PA, and was selected by Gamila El Masri to dance in her production, Night of the Hareem. She has been welcomed to Bethlehem, PA since her move in 2007 and has been invited to assist Touchstone Theatre’s production, Tales of the Middle East, appeared on several TV channels, and featured as a local artist through Touchstone’s Firehouse Fridays and annual performances at Musikfest among more.

Amala’s sensational performances are elegant and full of expression ranging from mysterious and enchanting to delicate and flirty to fast paced and energetic. She is a celebrated entertainer and featured performer throughout the tri-state area at various restaurants and night clubs in addition to performing at countless special events such as weddings, corporate parties, concerts, private celebrations, and festivals. Amala has also graced the stage in Virginia, Florida, Texas, and captivated audiences internationally in Central and South America.

She is the founder and artistic director of Abzahrah Middle Eastern Dance Company based in Bethlehem, PA. Abzahrah is comprised of Amala Gameela’s most talented and enthusiastic, advanced dancers who are dedicated to preserving, studying, and sharing the beauty, culture, and art of traditional and authentic Middle Eastern Dance. Although the company is fairly new, they have enlightened audiences across the tri-state area at various charities, festivals, theatrical shows, concerts, educational presentations, and cultural celebrations. Highlight performances include: St. Luke’s Hospital Charity Ball, First Night Hazelton New Year’s Eve Party, Touchstone Theatre, East Stroudsburg University, Delaware Valley College, several Penn State campuses, Mayfair, and Musikfest to name a few.

Amala Gameela is an enthusiastic and generous instructor who conducts weekly classes, workshops, and private lessons at several locations throughout the Lehigh Valley and is grateful to be based out of The Yoga Loft of Bethlehem and Quiet Heart Yoga Loft. She currently instructs several levels of belly dance students in addition to specialty style sessions and workshops. She is anxious to share her love and knowledge of Middle Eastern dance with dancers of all ages, shapes, and levels in a positive atmosphere.

She has also recently begun producing educational dance workshops and professional gala showcases by bringing international superstars to the Lehigh Valley in her efforts to share and sustain authentic Middle Eastern performing arts, such as her first and successful endeavor featuring Mohamed Shahin of Cairo in 2010.

As a tremendous lover of birds and wildlife, Amala Gameela sponsors professional events and haflas geared toward donations for non-profit wildlife organizations featuring her students, local, and professional performers. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Studies from East Stroudsburg University, worked as a Conservation Education Coordinator at an AZA accredited zoo, and is currently advancing and broadening her scientific studies at Villanova University. Her passion and love for parrots brought her to the remote jungle of Manu, Peru, where she spent two months working to save fledgling macaws as well as studying tropical ornithology in Costa Rica and Belize. Amala Gameela remains committed to wildlife conservation and continues to volunteer and assist wildlife rehabilitation centers, conservation groups, animal rescues, wildlife sanctuaries, and parrot organizations across the world.
