Athletic Band (Marching Band) Director

Greenville University is seeking a dynamic full-time Athletic Band (Marching Band) Director.

We seek a potential colleague who:

Is committed to serve as a role model for students within an academic community with a distinctively Christian mission;
Holds a minimum of a master’s degree in instrumental music or related degree (extensive professional experience will be considered as well);
Demonstrates a working knowledge of traditional and contemporary athletic band repertoire, and field show design and implementation;
Exhibits knowledge of conducting/directing skills for athletic bands;
Has directing/teaching/professional experience in marching and pep bands;
Has skills/experience related to directing a Jazz Band and/or Concert Band;
Has experience and a successful history of doing recruitment work
Demonstrates a cooperative, collegial spirit;
Is dedicated to working with students of all types and ethnic backgrounds to help prepare them for professional work upon graduation;
Is prepared to work for this on-site position in Greenville, IL.

Key Responsibilities:

Work on recruitment goals under the leadership of the Director of admissions.
Ensemble responsibilities to include leading the Athletics Bands, and Jazz Band and/or Concert Band.
The Marching Panther Regiment is the musical ambassador for the athletic program, primarily football and basketball. During the fall, the MPR performs at all home football games and other related events, including local parades. In the spring, the pep band performs at all home men’s and women’s varsity basketball games.
The Jazz Band is an instrumental music ensemble that features vocal guests. The ensemble performs two concerts each semester and performs a variety of repertoire that includes modern jazz/fusion and classic standards. Community musicians also participate in this ensemble.
The Concert Band is the concert ensemble of the instrumental program. The ensemble performs two concerts each semester and performs a variety of repertoire that includes new music, classic standards, and chamber music. Community musicians also participate in this ensemble.
Teach applied music lessons related to the band programs and the candidate’s skills.
The director will manage ensemble and applied lessons coursework in D2L, our learning management system.
Provide social connections and spiritual leadership to the ensembles.
Preferred Qualifications:

A master’s or doctorate in instrumental music or a closely related field
Administrative skills to manage the athletic band schedule and budgets and manage a band student worker. Additionally, communicate regularly with the music department chair and the music department administrative assistant
Familiar with recruitment software and management tools
Is familiar with learning management systems (web-based course management, such as D2L or Blackboard);
Experience working with faculty/teams in a collaborative manner
Ability to coach students on public performance skills
Training and experience in online coursework
Innovative technology skills and experience relevant to directing and teaching
Familiar with music notation software (Finale, Sebelius or the like)
Music ministry or service-oriented experience

Compensation:

Greenville University offers competitive stipends for teaching in the Music Dept. and is based on credentials, enrollment, and years of experience with the University. The Greenville University music department has a rich history that includes nearly a century long choral program. GU offered the very first CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) degree in the nation in the late 1980s and continues to take pride in our innovative music programs. In 2012 we launched our Worship Arts degree program which continues to train worship leaders and maintain an extremely high job placement. Our Music Industry Studies (MIS) degree program is also highly innovative, training students in the areas of studio recording, audio post-production/game audio design, live sound/lighting, commercial performance, and songwriting. We offer numerous ensembles, including Fusion (commercial music), Lab Band (original rock groups), Pursuit worship bands, Gospel Choir, Jazz Band, GU Choir, Chamber Singers, Concert Band, and Marching and Pep Bands. Greenville University has launched several renowned bands, artists and audio/recording engineers.
